We have tried to consolidate in the following F.A.Q’s (Frequently Asked Questions) the most important decision making factors related to our product;

Is there a recycled content in the Bramal’s VIREO™ ?
Yes, 50% is recycled tire polymer and we are continuously investing time and money into research and development to augment that content. In most re-engineering of new products it is typical to find 10 to 20% recycled content, we have a highly superior content and we are very proud to say so.

Where does a typical used tire go ?
In 2003 in the U.S.A alone, about 290 million used tires were generated. Dependant on where you live and your local state / provincial government regulations some of the info may vary but in north America this is a good general average; most used tires (50 %) are burnt either in cement kilns or incinerators for some type of process or energy need, many studies have shown adverse health effects, and negative environmental impacts to this practice. 20 % are disposed of in landfills, 16 % are used in civil engineering projects such as reef recreation, embankment fillers, soil erosion fill, most of these uses have created leaching of contaminants in the water table and are not allowed in most jurisdictions. 6 % is ground up and recycled or reused in processes such as VIREO™. About 3 % is used in asphalt for road use, but is more expensive that conventional asphalt by about 4 times so is less commonly used due to the outbidding phenomenon in public offering contracts. Another 3 % is exported to other countries for re-capping or reuse. 1 % is recycled or reused in cutting or stamping applications for gaskets and rubber washers. And finally 1 % is used for Agricultural uses such as cow mats and fencing.

Is VIREO™ toxic, does it contain V.O.C ?
No it encapsulates for it’s lifetime the recycled tire polymer (one tire contains on average 4 liters of oil). No the product does not contain any V.O.C’s (Volatile Organic Components), most other roofing materials contain between 5 and 25% volatiles present on installation or at the manufacturing plant.

Is VIREO™ recyclable in part or whole once it’s lifetime has expired ?
Yes 100%. When the membrane has come to term, it is possible to spray another layer on top of it since it is very light (1 – 1.5 lbs / sq.ft) or it can be completely recuperated and recycled into aggregates or crumb used to make a new membrane.

 Does VIREO™ degrade or biodegrade ?
No. Once the mixture is sprayed onto the surface to be applied, it polymerizes into a “thermoset” once this occurs it is like a one way transformation which cannot be decomposed into it’s original components under heat or pressure.

Is VIREO™ a renewable resource ?
No, but it’s composition of 50% recycled material is a form of renewable resource based on the consumption numbers per capita. Since on average 1 (one) person uses 1 (one) tire per year, we can consider our raw material supply to be effectively unlimited. On earth we send about 1 (one) billion tires to landfill per year not taking into account the tire that are used in TDF (tire derived fuels) and alternative uses.

Can I find Bramal products at local suppliers ?
